Launch of ‘Don’t Bother’ magazine

leave a comment »

Friday 31st July
6 – 9pm

Issue 005 of Don’t Bother magazine contains work by these artists: Paul Brooker, Josh Field, Matthew the Horse, Scott Massey, Lee Stone, Laurie Storey, Hiromi Suzuki, John Taylor, Sara Thielker, and Carla Wright.

It has been screen-printed, letterpress printed and ink jet printed. The majority of the screen-printing took place at Print Club in East London. The remainder occurred at Bath Spa University. The part that was printed letterpress was done on Richard Lawrence’s Excelsior hand-press. Nearly half of the paper that makes up the magazine is found: it would have likely been left unused and later recycled had it not been used in the magazine.

Additional content by Adam Burton.

Thursday 30th July

Hello Pervs,

This month we’re reading “Justine” by the Marquis De Sade

Also known as ‘The Misfortunes of Virtue’ it was an early work by the
Marquis de Sade, written in two weeks in 1787 while imprisoned in the
Bastille.  The plot follows Justine, a beautiful but naive young girl, who
finds herself being passed around from depraved pervert to depraved
pervert, enduring just about every kind of sexual degradation there is
while still believing that some kind stranger will eventually help her.

If you haven’t yet picked up your copy of the book, then it’s available at Donlon Books for just £6.99

The

fact
that I’ve
never seen
Rat Pfink a Boo Boo
or Secret File Hollywood or
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopp’d Living and
Became Mixed Up Zombies or, or
any of your films
doesn’t make
it less
sad.

Lies

There’s a good reason why
“learning to lie” is not
curriculum fodder

for elementary
schools, and we all know this:
that particularly

creative act is a
cinch. Yet… I do doubt if
a day of school you missed!

The Subject

Loosening the grip of
a bohemian fever,
feeding it with pound signs,

wherewithal designed to
separate dreaming from
doing, antiseptic

scourge of romanticism,
now allowing for the most
avant garde: the subject.
